MG M9 Electric MPV Review – Features, Range, Price and Drive Experience

MG Motors has launched a new big electric car in India called the MG M9. It is a 7 seater electric MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) with many luxury features. This car was officially launched in India on 21 July 2025.

I got a chance to drive this car before the launch in india. I will share my real driving experience, like its range, features, comfort, price, and whether this car is good for Indian buyers or not.

Features and Range of MG M9 Electric MPV

This electric MPV is not just about size or power. it is made for comfort, smooth drive and modern features. I personally drove this car and noticed how easy and relaxing it feels, especially for backseat passengers. Here are the main features explained simply for Indian buyers:

Range and Power

M9 comes with a powerful 90 kWh battery. The company says it can go up to 548 km on a single charge. During my test drive, the battery was at 89%, and it showed 376 km range in Normal mode. There are three drive modes – Eco, Normal, and Sport. In Sport mode, the range drops, but the car becomes more responsive. It has 245 PS power and 350 Nm torque, which is enough to move this big MPV smoothly, even in city traffic.

Safety and Braking

The car has 7 airbags and 4 disc brakes, which gives full protection to all passengers. It also has ESC, which helps control the car during high-speed turns or wet roads. The rear-view mirror is replaced with an HDR digital camera, which gives a clear view even at night. A 360-degree camera is also there, which makes parking and turning easy. You also get tyre pressure monitoring for extra safety. The tyre size is 235/55 R19, giving it a stable grip on Indian roads.

Interior Design and Comfort

The M9 EV is longer than Vellfire and Carnival. This car comes with length of 5270 mm, 2000 mm width, and height of 1840 mm. Its 3200 mm wheelbase makes the inside space feel huge. The middle row seats are powered and fully adjustable through a digital control panel. You can easily move the seats forward or backward, recline them, and even switch to sleep mode at the press of a button. The seats come with massage, cooling, and heating. Rear passengers also get AC vents, USB ports, and optional LED screens. There’s also a 55-litre storage box under the front bonnet.

Screen, Music System and Controls

The M9 has a big 12.3-inch touchscreen which controls all major features like AC, music, camera, and drive modes. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and comes with a wireless mobile charger. The car has a JBL sound system, which gives very clear and rich sound during the drive. The doors are power sliding, which open and close automatically with a soft touch. Most features are controlled by the screen.

Price in India and Is It a Replacement for Innova?

MG has launched the M9 electric MPV in India. The ex-showroom price is ₹69.90 lakh. It comes in only one fully-loaded variant. Bookings are open for ₹1 lakh. This car will be sold through MG Select showrooms. Deliveries will start from 10 August 2025.

Some people are calling it a replacement for the Toyota Innova, but that’s not true. The Innova is more practical, affordable and perfect for families and fleet use. This electric MPV is a luxury car with electric tech, made for a different type of customer.

My Test Drive Experience

I drove the MG M9 during the media test drive. The car is 5270 mm long, 2000 mm wide, and 1840 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3200 mm. It is even bigger than many other MPVs like Toyota Vellfire or Kia Carnival. Because of the size, turning and parking in small roads was not easy. You need good driving skills to manage it in traffic areas.

The car starts without any sound. The drive felt smooth and silent. The steering was very light and easy to handle.

There are three driving modes – Normal, Eco, and Sport. I used Normal and Sport the most. In Sport mode, the pickup felt stronger, and the brake also felt heavier. When the battery was at 89%, the screen was showing 376 km range. After I switched to Sport mode, the range came down by about 50 km.

The rear camera was clear even at night. The big mirrors and digital display helped while reversing. Overall, the MG M9 gave a premium, silent, and steady drive.
